Why doTerra’s essential oils?

DIY liquid hand soap

I have used homemade hand soaps for years. Natural liquid hand soaps are quick and easy to make. I want to keep all the extra chemicals and additives away from my home. You get enough of them from outside of the home. Many 100% pure essential oils are naturally disinfecting and they bring a natural sent.  If you have a sensitive skin, lavender oil is a good choice. Lemon and peppermint are favourites for other people. If it’s the flu season, I use doTerra’s protective Onguard blend that has wild orange, clover, cinnamon and eucalyptus oil in it (or I use ready Onguard foaming hand soap).

Here is my recipe for self made liquid hand soap:

  • 1/3 of the bottle Castile soap (or other natural liquid soap/ doTerra’s cleaning concentrate)
  • 2/3 of the bottle distilled/filtered water
  • few drops of essential oils

You only need few drops for normal pump bottle.

Indian head massage with essential oils

Indian head massage includes a serie of massage movements that touches the scalp very softly and very firmly. Indian head massage also includes massage for shoulders, neck and upper arms. A person getting the massage sits in a chair with normal clothes on.

Few years ago Indian head massage was very popular in Finland. Now I feel that it’s not that popular anymore, but it is very relaxing and easy to do at home. Hair dressers use to offer it every where and it was taught in hair dresser schools. Of course spas, masseurs and beauticians still offer it. Indian head massage is extremely old thing, over 1000 years old, so I assume that it will come back as a trend again. If you need help with doing it at home, there are classes for it.

Essential oils for indian head massage

Good carrier oils for scalp are coconut, sesame, olive and almond oil. You can mix 100% pure essential oils to a carrier oil. Lavender oil relaxes and reduces stress. doTerra also has an oil blend called Balance that will help you to relax the whole body. There are many leaf oils in it, camomile and frankincense. Frankincense helps to focus your mind. If you want more energy and uplifting: Peppermint, lime, wild orange and grapefruit oils help with that. doTerra also has an oil blend called Cheer, that helps to lift your spirit and bring you cheer. It has wild orange peel, anise, bud of clove, vanilla, ginger and cinnamon in it.

Essential oils and yoga

howtouseessentialoils

A lot of people seek calming experiences from yoga for their everyday life. A moment, where they can take a break from their shopping lists, work phone calls and their own thoughts. Some also want yoga to improve their bodies, make it stronger, more limber and healthier. I’m not going to get deeper with yoga asanas here, but with essential oils you can get even better health benefits with your yoga practise.

Diffuse essential oils while doing yoga practise

Depending of the time of the day and the mood you are seeking for, with diffusing oils, you can affect your state of mind. With Lavender, Valor or Frankincense, you can relax your mind. You can get more energy with citrus oils, like Lemon, Lime or Wild orange. You only need two drops of essential oils to your diffuser

Essential oils on your skin during or after yoga practise

Before or after yoga, you can release tensions in your muscles with Lavender or Valor oil. You can put two drops to coconut or olive oil and on to your sour muscles. If you practise strength yoga, vinyasa yoga or ashtanga yoga and your muscles seem sour after, you can put two drops of peppermint oil or doTerra’s Deep Blue oil blend that releases pain from your muscles or joints. You can dilute the oils with coconut or olive oil.

Zone therapy with essential oils

howtouseessentialoils

Traditional zone therapy

Traditional zone therapy is based on a theory, that there are areas in your feet and hands, that by touching them you can influence the health of a specific organ or body part. By touching a specific part of feet or hands, you can increase energy flow in those areas and blood flow in those organs. The treatment can release tension, balance organs and increase immune support. The zone therapists can treat colic, pollen allergy, menstrual cramps etc.

Zone therapy is a treatment that is thousands of years old and was started in Western Asia, Japan and China. In Egypt they practised zone therapy already in 2500 B.C according to drawings they have found. In the west, zone therapy started in the beginning of 20th century.

Essential oils in zone therapy

Essential oils help to increase the benefits of zone therapy and many zone therapists use essential oils to boost the healthy effects on their patients. Zone therapists can diffuse oils, put them into tissue on their patient’s face and mix them into carrier oil and apply them on their patient’s skin. Lavender oil and doTerra’s Balance help balance and take stress out of the body. Lemon oil and doTerra’s Purify oil cleanse the body and organs. If you need an energy boost, citrus oils like wild orange and lime oil can help.

4 Ways to get healthier air at home

howtouseessentialoils

I remember when my little Lassi was not around yet, I wasn’t really thinking about the safety of my home. When cats came along, I was thinking about the wires and toxic bottles that they could lick or poor on to themselves. When Lassi started putting everything into his mouth and was licking all the surfaces, I started thinking what was in my cleaners and were those chemicals healthy for me either. American study said that the air inside is five times more polluted than the air outside, because of chemicals. Here are four ways to improve the air at home:

  • Get rid of the carpets. Carpets collect dust mites, that can cause asthma and eczemas.
  • Ventilate air regularly. Dust mites enjoy the standing air of central heated home. They also like the air of damp houses.
  • Get house plants. House plants love air and can take out toxins from it. Effective house plants for cleaning air are: Chlorophytum, chrysanthemum, coconut-tree and gerbera.
  • Make your own cleaners. Even more natural cleaners can have artificial fragrances that are not good for you.

Diffusing essential oils

If you want to use essential oils aromatically, which means inhaling them, you can affect your mood. You can also inhale oils from your hands. If you need something uplifting, good oils are: Peppermint, wild orange and lemon grass. If you want to get calmer in the evening, good oils are lavender and vativer. Oils for good mood are: Vativer, wild orange and Ylang ylang.
