Product review: DoTerra’s Correct-X

Hello everybody!

I think spring has begun. Since the 1st of March spring gets to come (even though we had finally snow in Turku).

I thought I would test doTerra’s Correct X cream. Despite the name, it has nothing to do with make up (where my mind goes to), but correcting skin flaws.

doTerra correctX

My thoughts about doTerra’s Correct X 15ml cream:

  • It is quite small and the ointment is translucent
  • I don’t get any sence of smell from it. I thought because it has Lavender, Tea tree and Frankincense oil in it, it would be stronger.
  • It is not sticky. I was worried, when I saw it come out that it would be sticky, but it spread very nicely.
  • It’s great for the dry spots on the face, but I also tried it for my atopic skin on my hands. It’s not best for that use. doTerra’s Hydrating cream would be better for that. That’s very creamy.
  • Even thought it’s only 15ml, I can see it lasting long because you only need tiny drop of it.

Why doTerra’s essential oils?

1. Summer oil: Tea tree oil

The natives of Australia already found the benefits of tea tree. They would breath in the purifying scent in the morning. They also used the leaves to cool down their skin. Now the health benefits of tea tree have spread around the world. Tea tree also boosts the immune system.

I use tea tree oil (doTerra’s Meleleuca) during summer time for any skin irritations. I use it for small cuts, bug bites and sun irritation for me and my three year old. I have ready made blend of tea tree oil and coconut oil in my bag. You can mix two drops of tea tree essential oil to any carrier oil. doTerra carries ready made roller bottles of tea tree and coconut oil that are super handy on the go (“Touch” line).

melaleuca

Tea tree oil helps to clear oily and sweaty skin. You can add two drops to your skin care product and make up remover (don’t use coconut oil to oily or acne skin).

Tea tree oil can be used for cuticles (hand and feet). It helps to cure athlete’s foot and nail fungus. You can add a drop to your shampoo to make your hair healthier and stronger.

Natural bug repellent and help for bites

Hello!

I have gotten my first mosquito and ant bites this summer. When you are running after a toddler in the bushes, you can’t avoid bugs. They were the inspiration for my this week’s vlog. My recipe for my natural bug spray is here. Essential oils can be used for the treatment of bug bites. Peppermint, tea tree and lavender oils  help to treat bites in different ways. Peppermint helps to cool off the burning sensation and reduce infection. Tea tree oil is antiseptic and antibacterial. Lavender helps to calm painful ant bites.

Essential oils for skin care

Hello!

I made today a vlog about skin care with essential oils. I go through different essential oils for different skin types (ageing and dry skin) and especially oily skin. I mention in the video a vlog, where I talk about how important it is to use pure essential oils. I made an article about this same topic, where I list all the oils that I talk about in this video and how to use them.

Essential oils for skin care

face-2662919_1920

Essential oils can balance, cleanse and renew your skin. It’s very important to check the quality of the essential oil brand you are using. Even if the label says 100% pure essential oil, unfortunately it doesn’t mean anything. Companies mix synthetic chemicals and other ingredients in them. There is no real regulation in the industry, other than what the companies do themselves. (I have a vlog about this)

You can improve the health of your skin tissue with good quality essential oils especially in your face and hands. You should dilute always your essential oils (except lavender and tea tree oil you can use directly in special circumstances) with jojoba, coconut or some other vegetable oil or with basic lotion without sent in it.

Here are tips for using essential oils for skin care:

  • Eucalyptus: Cooling and antiseptic, you can use for example for spots and boils.
  • Geranium: Contracting and balancing, cleans and firms the skin. Reduces inflammation and treats acne, eczema and little cuts.
  • Juniper berry: Contracting  and cleansing, can help with acne, eczema and oily skin. Don’t use while pregnant.
  • Lavender: Antiseptic and stops inflammation. It can reduce eczema, sun burn and mosquito bites. It can relieve mild burns in the skin. Lavender also increases cell growth and healing, so it can help with scars.
  • Roman chamomile: Calming and antiseptic, it’s good for sensitive and dry skin, relieves acne and eczema.
  • Sandal wood: Softens dry, ageing and wrinkly skin, it also can relieve sun burn, nettle-rash and other irritation in the skin.
  • Tea tree: Antiseptic and stops inflammation and fungus, it’s good for boils and skin rashes and other inflammation in the skin.

Essential oils for athletes

howtouseessentialoils1108

The World Championships for athletes made me think about athletes and essential oils. How could an athlete or somebody who enjoys exercising use their oils? Here are some tips:

  • Relax achy or tired muscles and joints

Peppermint can be used to relax achy muscles and joints. Take couple of drops of peppemint (or doTerra’s Deep Blue oil blend) and mix it to coconut oil or some other carrier oil and massage it to the place you need. You can drink doTerra’s Peppermint oil by adding a drop to water or some other drink. Lavender can be used to relax and recover tired muscles.

  • Boost immune support

Clover and Frankincense has been proven to add white cell account in the laboratories, which helps your body to fight germs. You can add two drops, diluted with carrier oil to your wrists or bottom of your feet, for example. Frankincense also renews cells, so I put a couple of drops to it to my face every evening, double effect!

  • Clean sports gear in a non toxic way

Especially if you have a man in your life who loves to exercise, you may have noticed that sports gear brings extra odor in to your life. Lemon oil disinfects shoes, ends of the clubs and helmets, where there is bacteria. You can either wipe with a cloth with a couple of drops of lemon oil in it or make your own spray with lemon oil, water and maybe some castile soap (or doTerra’s cleaning concentrate). Lemon makes stains fade in the sun, but it can also dilute colors, so be careful with that. If you want to make your whites whiter, that’s a good tip for that purpose. The smell of lemon, makes the sport gear smell nicer.

  • Avoid athlete’s foot and nail fungus or treat them

If you have ever suffered from athlete’s foot or nail fungus, you know those are nasty. Wiping your toe nails and feet with couple of drops of tea tree oil (Melaleuca) you can improve your chances with fight against bacteria. Swimming or showering in public places increases your chances in getting skin infections. Tea tree oil has been used since 1920’s in Australia to treat skin infections. I swim a lot in swimming halls. If I have any cuts in my feets or near my toe nails, I clean them with tea tree oil after to make sure I don’t get any infections.

Self made handwashing liquid/ washing liquid for diaperbag

käsipesuneste

It is recommended to use glass jars/bottles instead of plastic with essential oils, because they might hurt the plastic ones. I use however my old plastic bottles, so I’m not too concerned about that. This washing liquid is naturally chemical and fragrance free.

  • 1/5 of the bottle doTerra’s cleaning concentrate/ dr Bronner’s baby castile soap/ liquid Marseille soap
  • fill rest of the bottle with water
  • depending of your bottle size, put 10-20 drops of lemon and tea tree oil (lemon disinfects and teatree oil is antiseptic)

Shake always before use.

Essential oil for pollen allergy?

howtouseessentialoils

How many of us suffer from pollen allergy? Quite many! I had no idea what pollen allergy even was few years back until it started getting worse and worse . Sometimes I’ll get an easier year with the rains. Who gets tired with allergy meds? Probably quite many, especially if you are expected to eat those every day with the bad season. Essential oils have good options for pollen allergy. One of them even increases energy!

  1. Peppermint Diffused peppermint opens clogged nose and helps with throat. Peppermint helps with allergies, colds, cuffs and asthma (be careful with kids with asthma). You can take two drops of doTerra’s peppermint oil internally couple of times a day (I mix mine with a drink of smoothie, some people put it under their tongue).
  2. Basil helps with body’s inflammation. I have been happy with basil oil fighting pollen allergy with my small son lately. I’ll put a drop to coconut oil and onto his spine couple of times a day. I’ll put two drops for myself. Basil supports adrenal glands, that produce 50 different hormones in our body. Basil supports our bodies against viruses and bacteria while helping with inflammation and fatigue.
  3. Eucalyptus helps to open lungs and airways. Eucalyptus activates blood stream and therefore helps with allergy symptoms. Eucalyptus reduces inflammation and detoxes body from toxins and bad micro organisms that work as allergens. You can diffuse eucalyptus or put two drops to carrier oil and put it on to your body. Don’t use internally!
  4. Lemon supports lymphatic system and therefore helps with colds. Lemon kills bacteria from air, which is good if somebody in the family has caught a cold. The research shows that lemon oil reduces bacteria growth and supports immune system. It also helps balance body’s pH level. I drink hot lemon water everyday first thing in the morning. Lemon oil supports liver and helps detoxify body’s toxins. You can diffuse lemon oil, add two drops to your drink or add two drops to a carrier oil and put it onto your body. If you put it onto your skin, be careful with the sun!
  5. Tea tree oil helps purify air from germs. Diffusing tea tree oil, it will kill bacteria and mole. Tea tree oil is antiseptic (works well with cuts and mosquito bites) and reduces inflammation. doTerra’s tea tree oil (Melaleuca) can also be internally consumed (two drops to a drink or under your tongue)
